CM likely to grace Barak fest

After Ukhrul and Kangpokpi districts, Chief Minister N Biren Singh will visit Senapati district and grace the Barak festival, according to sources.
Though the precise date is yet to be fixed, the sources said that the Chief Minister will visit after May 2 0 around which time the Barak festival will be organized.
The Barak festival was held in December 2016 with a massive car rally from Senapati headquarters till Liyai, the source of the biggest river of Manipur (Barak) .
According to the sources, PHED Minister Losii Dikho from Mao Assembly Constituency and Tribal and Hill Areas Minister N Kayisii from Karong Assembly Constituency discussed matters related to the upcoming Barak festival with members of Autonomous District Council (ADC), Senapati district and civil society organizations.
The meeting also dwelt on the welfare issues of the district which was held at DRDA conference hall, Senapati town today.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of recognizing Barak festival as one of the State festivals.
The meeting dwelt on the ways to create situations where the relationship between the civil society organizations and the legislators from the district remains cordial so as to bring improvement in all aspects.
Meanwhile, sources said that the upcoming Barak festival is all set to witness cultural show extravaganza apart from 'talent shows', exhibitions of crafts, foods, drinks, flowers, handlooms etc.
Other features of the Barak festival will include observation of plantation week, trekking programme, Barak Flower Show, Sales-cum-exhibition of local products and produce, Barak Half Marathon, Voice Hunt, Talent Hunt and Stage Programme.
