REFORM celebrates 13th foundation day

Imphal, November 22 2019: Research Forum Manipur (REFORM) celebrated its 13th foundation day at Lamyanba Shanglen, Konung Lampak yesterday.

Manipur State Minority Commission chairperson Anwar Hussain, REFORM president Mangshatabam Lokendra and social activist Filson Y Lunghar attended the function as dignitaries.

Speaking at the function, REFORM general secretary Sukham Premjit said that Research Forum Manipur was formed on November 21, 2007 with the objective to conduct research on the culture, language, art and history of the indigenous communities residing in the State and to make them known to all the people of the State and also to the International communities.

He continued that REFORM observed the International Mother Language Day and conducted an International seminar for the first time in the State on February 21 .

Premjit further stated that REFORM initially took the initiative of organising Puthiba Umang Lai Haraoba of Abhoynagar village in Tripura, along with the Meitei communities residing there.

Subsequently, different organisations including UKAL has played the crucial role of organising the Lai Haraoba in Tripura, he said.

He maintained that the forum carried out numerous works related to history, literature and other issues occurring from time to time at the State, National and International levels.

REFORM have been releasing its journal every after six months apart from launching several books namely Shakok Lamlen, Paona amadi 1891, Pakhangba Phamluk etc, Premjit noted.

Recently, a five day long International seminar on sustainable development was organised in association with Manipur University in the presence of over 80 delegates.

A crucial time has come where the identity of the indigenous people is being questioned, he said and added that the root cause of this issue is the misunderstanding and the mistrust between the communities and swift influence of outside forces and culture.

He appealed to all to stand united for the integrity of the State.
