Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the event, TNFO president Turner Raihing informed that the main objectives of organizing the festival is to provide market avenues and exposures to the local farmers and women vendors in the rural settings of the State, particularly in Ukhrul district.
He said that local farmers and women vendors coming from the district and its surrounding villages are unable to get their deserving profits although they worked hard in farming and cultivating vegetables with sweat and toil, throughout the year.
Their produces are bought and taken to Imphal city by middlemen due to the lack of appropriate market avenues, he added.
He continued that capacity building for North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project (NaRM-G) and self-help groups, apart from building a conducive environment for peaceful coexistence of different communities in the State and bringing development through culture are other aspects of organizing the festival, he added.
Altogether 17 stalls displaying and selling food and agricultural produces from Ukhrul district and its surrounding areas are being opened at the festival.
Presentation of folk dance, folk songs/blues and special numbers from many noted Tangkhul singers, including Guru Reuben Mashangva also marked the main events on the first day of the festival.
