Many care two hoots about social distancing

Imphal, June 05 2020: Though social distancing or physical distancing is the most common and constant preaching of health experts, Government and the WHO in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic many people don't give a damn about social distancing at several public places in the State.

Social distancing norms are nowhere visible at many ATM booths of Imphal and greater Imphal areas as well as at the pre-paid recharge centres of MSPDCL.

People are not maintaining the prescribed gap or distance which should be there between two individuals at many places where queuing is necessary.

Neither police nor any other authority can be seen enforcing the social distancing norms at such places.

A large number of people were seen queuing in front of a recharge centre of MSPDCL today with no one bothering to maintain the prescribed physical distance.

Likewise, people were seen standing in queues without adhering to the social distancing norms in front of several ATM booths.

Notably, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and health experts have been constantly preaching that social distancing is the most effective and reliable means of checking the spread of COVID-19.The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the State Government have issued orders asking citizens to strictly abide by the social distancing norms.

Moreover, the Government has been publishing/broadcasting advertisements in both print and electronic media every now and then highlighting the importance of keeping social distance in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even telecom networks have been using a short advisory on COVID-19 including the importance of keeping social distance as a common caller tune.

But many people are still unable to digest the importance of these messages as testified by their blatant noncompliance with social distancing norms.

Whereas the number of COVID-19 positive cases has been soaring rapidly in the State, it seems more and more people have started taking the authority's advisory on social distancing norms more lightly.

One very pertinent question is how much percentage of the State's total households use hand sanitisers regularly and wash their hands with soap thoroughly and frequently.

Notably, the State's total CO VID-19 positive cases have already crossed 120 with 32 testing positive in a single day on June 3 .
