Film on protected areas released

On the occasion of World Environment Day, Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Awangbow Newmai released a 20 minute documentary film titled "Protected Areas of Manipur...
the Wilderness Unexplored" produced by the Forest Department, Manipur under the Nature Learning Centre, National Mission on Himalayan Studies, Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Government of India.
The documentary film focuses on all the National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries of Manipur which are protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 for conservation and protection of the endangered flora and fauna.
The film shows the presence of the pristine forests, serene nature and unexplored wilderness in the State and creates mass awareness.
The film also reflects on the State's eco-tourism potential.
Another feature film "Tangjapham Upal" was also released during the function at the Forest Headquarters, Sanjenthong.
Speaking on the occasion, the Forest Minister expressed serious concerns over the degrading environment and climate change.
The documentary film shows people how much Manipur is blessed by nature, he said adding it will encourage people to preserve and protect forest and environment.
He observed that natural calamities like flash floods, landslides and drought like situations are due to ecological imbalance caused by destruction of nature over the years.
He said that the World Environment Day, observed on June 5 every year, is a reminder to all humans to commit themselves to protecting nature and its biodiversity.
"By protecting nature, its floras and faunas, we are protecting the human race, as well," he said.
The Minister expressing happiness stated that he is fortunate that Chief Minister N Biren Singh has given him the charge of the Forest Department.
He assured that he will work in his best capacity to protect the environment.
MH Khan, Additional Chief Secretary; Kereilhouvi Angami, PCCF & HoFF; Dr AK Joshi, Chief Wildlife Warden; Anurag Bajpai, Additional PCCF and Waikhom Romabai, DCF/Research, Silviculture & Training Division and other senior officers of Government of Manipur were also present during the release of the documentary film.
