MHRC takes environment day drive to QCs

A team of Manipur Human Rights Commission led by its Acting Chairperson Khaidem Mani inspected three quarantine centres at Kakching district today.
While visiting the quarantine centres, the Commission team also observed World Environment Day by planting trees near Kakching hospital.
The Acting Chairperson also interacted with the inmates stationed at Good Shephard School, Kakching, Guest House, Sugnu and JNV, Umathel and advised the inmates to join the World Environment Day by planting trees at their respective quarantine centres strictly following physical distancing norms so that it may help them in managing stress and anxiety while staying in quarantine centre.
Planting of trees by quarantine inmates were witnessed by M Joy Singh, Secretary of Manipur Human Rights Commission, Valentina Arambam, Deputy Commissioner, Kakching who accompanied the inspection with the Acting Chairperson.
It may be mentioned that while passing an interim order on a PIL on the functioning of quarantine centres, the High Court of Manipur had asked the Manipur Human Rights Commission to visit the quarantine centers and file a report to the Court.
In the said PIL, the petitioner had alleged that the quarantine centres set up by the State Government are lacking the prescribed standards laid down by the World Health Organisation and the National Centre for Disease Control.
So far the Commission has inspected more than 18 quarantine centres.
Tomorrow it will visit quarantine centres at Senapati district.
