Pineapple festival from Jul 10

The 5th Pineapple cum Youth Festival would be held from July 10 at the historic Thambalnu Market, Andro under the aegis of Development Organisation, Andro Kendra.
Around 300 MT of pineapple, mainly of Queen and Morisis varieties, is expected to be produced in 150 stalls during the festival, said Abungcha, secretary general of Development Organisation, Andro Kendra while addressing newsmen at the official quarters of MLA Th Shyamkumar located at Kanglapat today.
He said that a total of 280 MT was produced in the last edition of the festival last year.
Further, Abungcha said that various cultural dances would be displayed by around 100 cultural troupes during the five-day long festival.
Maintaining that the Pineapple festival has been organised every year since the last five years in order to promote pineapple cultivation, Abungcha also acknowledged the active and wholehearted cooperation of the pineapple farmers for making it a success down the years.
Ahead of the festival, Pineapple fruit would be made available to the public at Thambalnu Market from July 5 .
He also announced cash incentive for farmers in different categories during the fair.
Meanwhile, the organisation would also organise the first ever Andro Tourism Festival 2013 from July 15 .
The tourism festival, aimed at upgrading the Sanhei Natural Park, Andro to a Tourist Spot, would be held for four days.
Besides opening around 100 indigenous food stalls, the festival would witness the presentation of various cultural dances, Abungcha added.
