Special Court, POCSO, Imphal East, today, remanded rape accused Sanasam Malemnganba alias Nganba (24) s/o Inao of Sawombung VDF Post Leirak into four days police custody till March 2 while releasing Laishram Tangba alias Chinglensana (23) s/o Jillangamba of Sawombung Thongkhong after furnishing a PR bond of Rs 50,000, in connection with the rape of a minor girl at Nongada Maning Leikai (Santipur) Hiripat on the night of February 26.Today, the duo were produced before the Court with a prayer for remanding them into police custody for further investigation of the case.
On the other hand, their counsels filed remand objections along with bail applications praying for their release.
During the proceeding, the 10 explained that yesterday, the mother of the minor lodged a complaint before Women PS, Imphal East, claiming that her daughter was sexually assaulted by Sanasam Malemnganba.
She also raised suspicion regarding the involvement of a friend of the accused in the heinous crime.
The 10 narrated that on preliminary examination, the minor victim recalled that she was sexually assaulted by Malemnganba and no other was involved.
Accordingly, the police team submitted a report to the Chairperson of Child Welfare Committee, Imphal East, and as per its instruction, the victim was kept at a shelter home located in Imphal East.
In the meantime, Sanasam Malemnganba and Laishram Tangba were arrested and handed over to Women PS.
During interrogation, Malemnganba admitted to the charges levelled against him.
He also clarified that Tangba was not involved in the crime.
On the other hand, Tangba also claimed his innocence, the IO explained, praying to the Court to remand Malemnganba into police custody for four days as well as to pass an order with respect to Tangba.
Hearing the submissions of both sides and going through the materials on record, the Court remanded Malemnganba into police custody till March 2 .
The Court further granted bail to Tangba after executing a PR bond of Rs 50,000 along with a surety of the same amount.
