Lamka, April 21 2012:
The district veterinary officials have started mass vaccination of domesticated animals today as a pre-emptive measure to protect the animals from Black Quarter that has been taking the form of epidemic in some pockets of the state.
A little over 150 animals, mostly cows and buffaloes, were vaccinated during the drive that began at day-break, Saidoukum Pudaite, Jt Director (Vety) said.
"We have to start early as we don't want the animals to miss their chores, or get to them before they are let-off by their masters," he adds.
Still they missed some, but was made up by leaving the vaccine to the masters after due instructions were given on how to go about in injecting them.
The Vets' drive will continue in earnest till the world veterinary day which falls on April 28, according to the Joint Director who also claimed that they will be dolling out anti-rabies vaccine at free of cost.
