Imphal, May 18 2011:
Non adherence to guidelines issued for implementation of development works under MGNREGS programme has been detected at various Thoubal district areas during an inspection tour undertaken today by Kakching CD Block's BDO Angam Kourung Kom.
The Officer's tour covered works including the 4 km-long Khongyam road development, road connectivity work between Chairel Awang Leikai to Chairel Makha Leikai, drainage construction cum 5-km inter-village road development work from Wangoo to Moirang Maring village, 8-km long Maring village to Pungjao makhong IV road/drainage, IVR culverts and status of road at Nungu village, etc.
The tour was undertaken to assess whether prescribed guidelines of MGNREGS, under which rate of a day's labour has been recently hiked to Rs 126 per working day, are being conformed with.
Among others it came to light during the tour that neither provision for drinking water at the work site nor resting sheds for lactating mothers were put in place.
Moreover, provision for first aid kits was found violated in addition to the workers (job card holders) engaged in the tasks not possessing the said document at the work site as is mandatory for the programme.
Visibly upset on discovering non-compliance to the guidelines, Angam Kourung advised the job card holders to work diligently so that the noble scheme launched by the Govt benefits the rural population.
He also inaugurated a newly constructed Panchayat Ghar at Arong Nongmaikhong besides advising village authorities concerned to maintain quality control with regard to construction of waiting sheds, local ponds, toilet complexes, community halls.
