Training on fish farming begins

A five-day long training programme on scientific fish farming and breeding techniques under the sponsorship for Imphal West district from today.
The inaugural function of the training programme held at the community hall located near the gate of Fisheries office at Lamphel Sanakeithel was attended by Director of Fisheries K Saratkumar Singh as chief guest, District Fishery Officer of Imphal West L Kumar Singh as president and Fishery Officer of FRC Lamphel A Renubala Devi as guest of honour.
In all 100 trainees from different part of the district are participating in the training programme being organised under the India Government's scheme of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY).
Speaking at the inaugural function, K Saratkumar Singh informed that RKVY scheme was launched in Imphal during 2007-2008 .
But it is for the first time in Manipur that such a training programme has been organised under RKVY.
Starting off with Imphal West district, similar training programmes would also be organised in other remaining districts of the State.
He said that the main objective of organising the training programme is to increase production of fish in the State so as to stop import of fishes from outside Manipur to meet the demand of the people in the State.
Contending that production of fish in Manipur has been going down due to lack of proper knowledge on fish farming, he also stressed on acquiring necessary knowledge by the fish farmers.
