Imphal, May 11 2011:
As in previous years, United Committee Manipur (UCM) is all set to observe the 10th Great June Uprising Day on June 18 at the Kekrupat memorial Park where the mortal remains of 18 martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of protecting the territorial integrity of Manipur have been laid to rest.
To ensure success of the observance, a committee called the 10th Great June Uprising Day Observance Committee has been formed during a joint meeting yesterday, according to a statement issued by secretary IPR of UCM Kh Nilamani Kha-Nganba today.
According to the statement, under the Committee, there would be 12 sub-committees, namely Mobilisation; Finance; Transport; Publicity; Programme; Field, Stage & Beautification of Kekrupat; Presidium members contact; Martyrs' Families contact; Invitation; Reception; External Delegates and Water, Medical and Disaster Management.
All the sub-committees have been made operational with immediate effect to ensure success of the observance, the statement said, while calling upon all the people to participate in the observance.
In connection with the observance, UCM would also start seeking the support and assistance of the people.
An identity card of UCM inscribed as 'Deputy Finance' and signed by convenor of finance sub-committee BM Yaima would be used at the time of coming for assistance, the statement announced, while appealing to security forces of the Government not to give any sort of disturbance when UCM volunteers go around seeking assistance either in cash or kind.
Stating that Committee is still firm on its stand over the territorial integrity of Manipur, Nilamani Kha-Nganba asserted that there has been no let up to the challenges on the territorial integrity of Manipur from the side of Government of India.
Therefore, the people of Manipur should not forget the collective stand taken against the attempt of the Government of India to allow Thuingaleng Muivah, the leader of NSCN (IM), which has fallen into its hands, to enter Manipur.
In addition to this, the recent incident of ambush laid on MLA of Phungyar A/C Wungnaoshang Keishing by NSCN (IM), which has entered into peace talks along with signing of ceasefire with the Government of India has left no doubt on the unceasing attempts of the Government of India to create enmity among various communities and tear apart Manipur.
It is also a common knowledge to all that secret camps of NSCN (IM) are being allowed to set up within the territory of Manipur to unleash reign of terror among the innocent people.
This is despite the fact that the cease fire agreement signed between NSCN (IM) and Government of India does not cover Manipur.
So, the Government of India should remove all existing camps of NSCN (IM) from Manipur immediately, UCM demanded, and added that UCM is always ready to face any challenge in this regard with the support of the people who would never remain quiet over the issue.
At such a critical junction, the public should renew their pledge and slogan of Jan 16, 2003 night that Manipur would segregate from India if the Government of India makes any attempt to disturb territorial integrity of Manipur, UCM exhorted.
