CCpur, October 09 2020:
Days after the by-election for 60-Singngat AC was notified with three others, the former BJP candidate in Singngat AC who lost to the Congress candidate in 2017 has today formally announced his intention to run for the by-election at Saiboh village in Sangaikot sub-division.
Chinlunthang, the incumbent president of UZO told his workers that he has decided to contest in the by-election despite the current tenure of the State Assembly just a little over a year as he felt leaving the seat uncontested will create a vacuum in his political career.
Besides there is no reason to give a seat to someone who has relinquished his seat despite being elected, he said in a veiled reference to the ex-MLA GS Haupu resigning from the Assembly.
Henlianthang Thanglet, who stood third after Chinlunthang in the last Assembly election has already declared that he will not contest as he is now a loyal BJP member and would willingly leave it for the former MLA GS Haopu to get re-elected.
Chinlunthang also took a dig at the former MLA alleging he has planned to segregate the people of Sangaikot area by proposing their amalgamation into Saikot AC.
The formation of UZO (Zomi) is another reason he said for his decision to contest the by election as the Zou speaking community has been divided and he doesn't want a similar fate for other communities.
The fight for land amongst the different communities is worsening and it is his desire to safeguard the tribal land, he said adding, the by-election is an opportunity to do so.
It will also be an opportunity to cleanup the mess within ADC Churachandpur and deliver what is due to the people, he added.
