To enlighten the farmers on the necessary measures to be taken up for Kharif crops, a day-long training programme on 'Kharif Crop Production' was held at Wangoo Primary School on December 25 .
Organised by Plain and Hills Development Organisation, Ithai, the training programme was sponsored by Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.
Participating in the training programme as a resource person, senior assistant professor in Department of Entomology, CAU Dr Kh Ibohal Singh spoke in details on the type of pests and diseases that attack the crops during Kharif season and the preventive measures that should be taken up by the farmers in this regard.
He also advised the farmers against using chemical fertilisers in the hope of increasing the production of their Kharif crops as this is harmful not only to human being but also to the environment.
Another resource person of the training programme, Head of Department of Agronomy, College of Agriculture, CAU Prof N Nabachandra Singh imparted knowledge to the farmers on how the fertility of the soil could be increased and the types of manure to be used in this connection.
