Imphal, November 27 2016:
The Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) has strongly condemned the arrest of UNC president Gaidon Kamei, and UNC information and publicity secretary Stephen Lamkang on November 25 from Pheidinga.
Such suppressive policy of gagging the voice of the democratic citizens has no place in a democratic set up, a statement issued by ZYF functionary Titus Kamei said today.
Deploying maximum security forces in Naga areas in the name of providing security to escorts vehicles carrying essential commodities following the UNC's economic blockade is dictatorial and should be withdrawn immediately.
Blaming the State Government for the impasse, the ZYF said the Government tried to form Sadar Hills and Jiribam as a full-fledged districts without consulting the people.
The UNC's economic blockade on both the National Highways and ban on all works of National Projects in Naga areas is not against any community but against the wrong policy of the Government of Manipur for trying to ignore the four Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) signed on various occasion regarding the Sadar Hills issue, Titus Kamei said.
The stand of the Zeliangrong people in particular and Naga in general regarding the proposal to create Sadar Hills and Jiribam as full fledged districts has been made very clear on many occasions.
The situation could have been avoided had the Government consulted all the stake holders as per agreed in the MoUs, he added.
The ZYF has urged the Govt of India to intervene in the matter at the earliest.
