Imphal, April 24 2012:
Urging maximum restraint on the part of the Indian Army and NSCN despite 'provocative posture' of the Assam Rifles, the Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) has drawn the attention of the Prime Minister, Home Minister and Defence Minister of GoI to restrain those security forces who have taken law into their hand in order that the Indo-Naga peace process is not derailed.
In a lengthy press statement, the Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) charged that although the Political bosses in Delhi have been talking of peaceful solution to the Naga leaders, the paramilitary forces particularly Assam Rifles have been creating war-like situation in Naga areas every now and then, trying to provoke the Naga Army by raiding their camps and also detaining rank and files of the NSCN leaders in the name of sensitizing in Naga areas.
"In this regard we also doubtthe sincerity of the GOI which seems to be maintaining double standards towards the Nagas.
If not while Indian Political leaders are talking with Naga leaders for peaceful and meaningful solution, the Assam Rifles have let loose a reign of terror in Naga areas," it stated.
This has been exhibited in a spectacular manner by the intrusion of five AR personnel led by Major Sukanta to the NSCN Hq at Camp Hebron on April 19 without any regard for the ceasefire ground rules between the two entities which led those intruders into the custody of NSCN's camp Hebron, it maintained.
Since then, Assam Rifles and Indian Army have seized NSCN designated camps at Piulua (Buning) in Tamenglong, Senepati, Chandel and Ukhrul in Manipur and those designated camps within Nagaland too, the Baudi statement said.
The statement also admonishes AR and the Indian Security forces not to forget that the ongoing Indo-Naga truce (Ceasefire) is between two entities and it would be wrong for Indian security forces to treat cease fire in the same plane with SoO signed between GOI, GOM, GOA (Assam), etc.
with different UG groups of the North East.
The motto of the Assam Rifles 'Friends of the hills people' should not be used as propaganda tools only, however AR should prove to the Naga people that they are the real friends of the hills people and not their predators, the Baudi contended.
Indian Security forces should not view the on-going Indo-Naga Ceasefire from the angle of SOO which the Government of India, M~nipur, Assam and UG groups operating in NE regions have recently signed that agreement It is a tripartite agreement with a precondition to talk within the parameters of Indian constitution only.
Whereas, the ceasefire agreement between GOI & NSCN is a universal one as two entities.
It is also a well known fact that since the Naga revolutionary groups have signed the on-going ceasefire with GOI since 1997 and violence has been reduced drastically in the NE region particularly in Naga areas, it maintained.
"It is our utmost desire that both the Indian Security forces and the NSCN should not.
spoils the hard earned Indo-Naga cease fire which has been spanning for last 15 years due to the arrogant posture of the Assam Rifle," the Zeliangrong Baudi statement conveyed.
