Cops surrender

Imphal, October 21 2019:
9 cops against whom CBI/ SIT submitted charge sheets on October 16 over the alleged fake encounter/extra judicial killing of Thangjam Thoithoi alias Anilkumar of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai, surrendered themselves before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West on October 19.They were later released on bail of Rs 75,000 along with surety of similar amount each.
The charge sheeted cops, identified as Jamandar Laitonjam Bibekananda of Kongba Bazaar, Sub Inspector Laikhuram Lenin of Kongba Laikhuram Leirak, Head Constable Ronra Mataisang Shimray of Ngainga village, Ukhrul, Head Constable Moirangthem Kiran of Tentha Khunou Awang Leikai, Jamandar Arambam Sunder of Nagamapal Soram Leirak, Rifleman Nongthongbam Brajamani, Head Constable Aribam Captain Sharma, Head Constable Thokchom Amarjit of Kanto Sabal Leikai Leimakhong and Constable Huidrom Indrakumar of Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai appeared before the Court along with their respective counsels and filed applications for leave to surrender and to let them go on bail.
The Court heard and went through the applications filed by the accused cops and allowed them to surrender and go on bail after executing a PR bond of Rs 75,000 each along with surety of the same amount.
The Court also directed the relevant papers of the charge sheets to be furnished to the accused cops and fixed November 4 for committal process of the charge sheet.
It may be mentioned that on October 16, the charge sheet was submitted against them by the IO of SIT, Manipur, L Hangsing, Additional SP, CBI/ ACB, Imphal, after the completion of the investigation of the alleged fake encounter/extra judicial killing of Thangjam Thoithoi in the evening of January 14, 2012 along Mayai Lambi junction, Narankonjin Chandranadi road, under Wangoi PS at the hands of a combined team of Imphal West commando, Imphal East commando and 18 Sikh Regiment.
No personnel of 18 Sikh Regiment, who were part of the alleged fake encounter/extra judicial killing of Thangjam Thoithoi, were listed as accused in the charge sheet on the ground that prosecution sanction under Armed Force Special Power Act is accorded by the Union Government of India.
