Drug smugglers in police net

Imphal, April 18 2011:
Personnel of Singjamei Police Station have arrested two drug smugglers and seized 7200 capsules of Spasmo Proxivon (SP tablets) and 1100 tablets of Nitonson-10 (N-10) from their possession.
Talking to mediapersons in this connection at his office room today, SDPO of Singjamei Police Station Th Bikramjit informed that the two drug smugglers were arrested from Chingamakhong area at around 8 pm on April 16 .
Following a special tip off, a team of personnel from Singjamei Police Station conducted a frisking/checking operation at Chingamakhong.
While the operation was underway, three persons were seen coming in a diesel autorickshaw in a suspicious manner.
They were stopped for verification.
However, one of the occupants fled from there immediately on seeing the police.
The other two occupants later identified as Hamidur Rahman (26) s/o Ziyauddin of Lilong Kaleikhong and the driver of the autorickshaw Md Janish Khan (23) s/o Apik of Kiyamgei Muslim Laphupat were taken into custody and brought to the police station for interrogation.
During the subsequent checking of the autorickshaw (MN-01D/5496) in which they were travelling, two bags containing the banned drugs were recovered, Bikramjit informed.
Bikramjit further said that the seized drug consignment was likely to have been brought from Kolkata by air.
The arrested duo have been subsequently remanded to police custody after being produced before the relevant court, the police officer further informed, adding that efforts are being made to arrest the third person who fled.
The price of the seized drugs is normally not expensive.
But in black market, they are sold at double the original rate.
