Imphal, April 06 2018:
Tribal leaders from All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) and All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU) discussed with the Governor the Agricultural Produce and Livestock Marketing (promotion and facilitation) Bill, 2018 today.
ATSUM president, Vareiyo Shatsang, ATSUM Tribunal general secretary, Joseph R Hmar, general secretary of All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU), Romeo Bungdon and Andria Sinruwng, finance secretary of ATSUM met Najma Heptula, the Governor of Manipur at her office chamber at around 11 am today and had a threadbare discussion on the Bill.
"After a patient hearing, the Governor admitted that certain provisions of the tribal Constitutional rights have been overlooked when the State Government drafted the Bill," ATSUM leaders said.
According to the tribal leaders, the contravening sections, loopholes and anomalies that are posing a threat to the survival of the tribals is "seriously noted as it infringes" the sanctity of Article 371 C of the Constitution.
ATSUM leaders then claimed that the Governor is truly sympathetic to the issues of the tribals and also suggested the team to submit the anomalies and flaws of the Bill so that it is sent back to the State Government for necessary change/rectification.
The positive attitude and response of the Governor as a Constitutional guardian is appreciated, the tribal leaders said.
