Imphal, August 17:
Responding to the call of Waithou-Tangjeng Ching Kanba Lup and Khunai Kanba Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, Thoubal; a large number of villagers of the area today stormed at the gate of Chief Minister's Bungalow to place their case against posting of Assam Rifles at Waithou hillock.
In view of the strict security measures being taken up in connection with the visit of Union Home Secretary VK Duggal and the scheduled visit of the Chief Minister to New Delhi, the poor villagers who have come so far to submit a memorandum to highlight their grievances were denied audience with the Chief Minister.
Nevertheless, the representatives of the organisations were seen loitering around till late in the evening with the faint hope of meeting at least the Chief Minister in-charge to present their case.
Talking to media-persons, the office bearers of the two organisations said they have come as representatives of around 10000 villagers of Waithou, Lipokpi and Tangjeng villages to plead for cancellation of the land allotment order issued last year in favour of Assam Rifles and urged for deploying a State forces if at all security personnel need to be posted at the area.
