A two day special programme for women workers of unorganised sector has begun from today at Urup junior High School with social worker N Itomba Meetei, and senior Education officer of Imphal unit Central Board for Women's Education (CBWE), Palace Compound MN Salam as the chief guest and functional president respectively.
CBWE Facilitator N Lata Devi and social activist H Budhi also graced the occasion as the guests of honour.
Acknowledging importance of the role of women in shaping future of the society, N itomba stated that when a man is educated only the individual gains knowledge but education of a girl/woman not only transforms a person but brings about positive change to the entire family.
While noting that rate of literacy among the female population of Keirao AC is still very low compared to womenfolk of other assembly segments, the chief guest emphasised on the need for proper implementation and active participation by the Keirao womenfolk in various education-related schemes being initiated by the Govt.As resource person of the inaugural session, MN Salam highlighted that the programme exclusively for women is being undertaken with the aim of disseminating information about various programmes on education of the girl/women so as to erase gender discrimination and promote overall development of the society.
During his address, N Lata exuded confidence that condition of the womenfolk of Keirao AC could improve significantly in case more individuals contribute their mite in development activities such as Itomba.
