Imphal, October 30 2014 :
Indigenous Minority Organisation (IMOM) and Bungte Chiru Village Authority jointly organised the 3rd One Day Cultural Exchange Programme of Bungte Chiru Area at Bungte Chiru community hall today.
United Committee Manipur general secretary Joychandra Konthoujam, Indigenous Minority Organisation vice-president Momsokam, Chiru Tribal Union president Areng Jatak and Bungte Chiru Village Authority chairman Thanglenhang graced the occasion as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the function, Joychandra Konthoujam said that holding such programmes would strengthen unity among different communities.
Stating that bigger communities must never suppress smaller ones, Joychandra said that no group would survive until and unless they protect their identity.
Protecting one's identity should not be taken to mean that they are a small community, Joychandra pointed out.
Joychandra said that collective identity of the State can be preserved only when each and every community take pro-active roles in the protection of their own identity.
Cultural dances and songs of Chiru, Kom, Aimol and Meitei were presented at the function.
