Imphal, May 20 2017:
The ongoing construction of NH-37 (Jiri-Imphal road) should have culverts and proper drainage system and completed portions of the road which has started deteriorating due to heavy traffic movement should be repaired within 24 .
This was stated by Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation Manipur (RNYOM) while briefing mediapersons at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, Imphal today.
RNYOM president Singamlung Dangmei said, "We welcome the decision of the new State Government under Chief Minister N Biren to complete the construction of NH-37 on time.
However, so far, not a single culvert has been constructed construction of drains has not been initiated.
This type of road construction is not acceptable" .
"We have inspecting the construction work along the NH-37.During the inspection, we even asked the engineer under the manager project of NHIDCL why drains and culverts were not built to which he replied that the said works are not listed under the work program," he said.
Without proper drainage system and culverts, vehicles plying along the road can meet with any untoward incident.
The State Government ought to know the consequences of not constructing drains.
The road which was earlier constructed by BRTF could not last and people had to suffer because the work was not executed properly, he added.
He stated that the State Government should look into the matter and response positively within May 24 .
