Imphal, May 20 2017:
With an aim to strengthen the ties between Japan and Manipur, the country is willing to take up various infrastructure projects in the State.
This was stated by Ambassador of Japan to India, Kenji Heramatsu during the observance of 73rd anniversary of Battle of Imphal jointly organised by Tourism Department in collaboration with Manipur Tourism Forum and Second World War Campaign Foundation at Japanese Peace Memorial located at Maibam Lotpa Ching, Nambol today.
A total of 32 Japanese delegates took part in the observance.
Talking to media persons, Kenji Heramatsu said that the courage and sacrifices made by those Japanese soldiers who lost their lives in Second World War will always be remembered.
He expressed gratitude to the people of the State especially locals of Maibam Lotpa Ching and several civil society organisations for protecting and preserving the memorial site.
He asserted that Japan shares a cordial relationship with North East States including Manipur since the last many years.
He informed that he will meet Chief Minister N Biren tomorrow to discuss various infrastructure projects that could be taken up by Japan in the State.
Observing that implementation of such projects would further strengthen the ties between the country and the State, Kenji Heramatsu said that Japan wants to maintain the close relationship with Manipur.
Japan is looking forward to invite youth of Manipur to the country as this would help youth of both the sides in understanding each other very well, he added.
Dignitaries including the Japanese delegates offered floral tributes at the memorial as a mark of respect to the deceased Japanese soldiers.
