Imphal, April 16 2011:
The Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) kick-started the "Remembering Oinam 1987 and Mao Gate 2010" today at Senapati (Tahamzam) by taking out a "Caravan of Anguish" .
In the infamous "Operation Blue Bird", Assam Rifles murdered 15 persons, tortured hundreds, and raped and molested many women.
"Operation Blue Bird stands testimony to the most inhuman disregard and violation of the rights of Nagas", the NPMHR said in a press release.
Again on May 6, two young students, Loshou and Chakho were killed at Mao Gate, and hundreds including women were injured in one of the most brutal acts committed by security forces.
Justice and accountability of these inhuman acts are still denied to the victims.
Victims of Operation Blue Bird are still awaiting justice 24 years after approaching the Gauhati High Court.

Further, in the backdrop of almost 14 years of negotiation between the Government of India and NSCN-IM, incidents like those that occurred on May 6 last year at Mao Gate, among others belie the assurance of the Indian leadership for an early settlement of the Indo-Naga issue.
The main programme would be held at the Mini Stadium, Senapati tomorrow along with testimonies and messages from victims.
The programme would continue till May 6 with similar acts and performances at other Naga areas, added the release.
