A "One Day Awareness and Rehabilitation Program for the Disabled" was held at Maharaja Bodhchandra College, today.
The programme was organized by the NIMH (National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped), Secunderabad, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India in collaboration with the Maharaja Bodhchandra College, Imphal.
Dr Th Manihar Singh, Principal, MB College presided the function and Dr Sudhir G Bhale, Lecturer in Community Rehabilitation & Project Management, NIMH, Secunderabad was the resource person.
The awareness programme started with an introduction cum welcome address by Dr Homen Thangjam, Assistant Professor, MB College, Imphal.
Dr Sudhir G Bhale focused on three key areas such as rehabilitating human resource development, barrier free environment (attitudinal and social barrier) and need for awareness about disability by the society as well as the community.
This was followed by an interactive session.
The programme was a part of the assignment entrusted to NIMH for promoting programmes for the Disabled in North East region, which started from January 12 .
NIHM rehabilitation professional team of 10 (ten) members under the coordination of Prof B Ashok, has been travelling to different parts of Manipur to enhance general level of awareness for early prevention and identification of mental retardation, strengthening existing service for providing assessment, training and evaluation support for ensuring quality service for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the disabled.
