Imphal, August 11, 2013:
United Revolutionary Front (URF) has called a 12-hour State wide bandh on August 15 with effect from 5am to 5pm. In a statement issued by its information and publicity secretary Sanajaoba Meitei, the outfit said that there is no reason for celebrating the 66th Independence Day of India by the people of Manipur who have been fighting for independence against the country.
The statement warned that those individuals who try to break the bandh would be taken as the enemies of Manipur.
The outfit alleged that India Government have been imposing different forms of oppression and violent activities in contrast to Mahatma Gandhi's non-violent philosophy.
Those individuals and organisations who are planning to take part and extend support to the celebration must understand that the people of Manipur are reeling under atrocities carried out under the cover of AFSPA.
Saying that the unity of the people of Manipur was greatly disturbed with the advent of Hinduism in the 17th Century, the outfit observed that the situation became deteriorated with Manipur was forcibly annexed to Indian Union.
