Imphal, January 10 2016:
Khwairamband Market shed 2
and 3 vendors have urged the
State Government to expedite
rehabilitation process for
affected vendors of the January
4 earthquake.
Lourembam Sana, a cloth
vendor at the Ima Market, said
the affected vendors have set
up temporary stalls on the
streets of Khwairamband
market awaiting the State's
Government's proposed construction
of a rehabilitation
shed at the public parking of
Temporary Market.
She further urged the State
Government and the authorities
concerned to accelerate
the rehabilitation procedure.
Mention may be made, the
State Government had issued
a statement notifying the setting
up of a makeshift market
for the affected vendors at the
public parking area of the
Temporary Market.
As per
the orders, vending and other
business on the site were
halted immediately.
However,
with no immediate sign of
construction works coming
up, vendors have returned to
their spaces and set up stalls
at the site.
The displaced vendors of
the Ima Keithel 1 and 2 have
set up temporary stalls on
footpaths, beneath the BT
Flyover and on spaces between
Ima Keithel and New
Market.
They have urged the
State Government to begin
construction of the proposed
temporary market at the earliest.
