Irate family members and locals storm Lamphel Court complex

Imphal, January 03 2018: Irate locals and family members of deceased Ph Gaithouliu Phaomei stormed Lamphel Court complex today when the husband of the deceased was brought before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Tamenglong.

The incident happened after the family members and irate locals submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren Singh and DGP Manipur, demanding immediate arrest of the accused Ngamphuiyang Gonmei and re-arrest of the husband of the deceased, Ethube Daime as well as to take up necessary actions against the erroneous officials responsible for letting the culprit escape.

The husband of the deceased, Ethube Daime (26) s/o Haisangam Daime of T Pabram village, Tamenglong came to Lamphel Court complex along with his youngest son to appear before the CJM Tamenglong.

After Ethube Daime made his personal appearance, the Court ordered him to re-appear before the Court on January 6.It may be mentioned that Ethube Daime was released on bail by the Court on November 22, last year.

According to the bail order, an FIR was registered on the basis of receipt of information that an unidentified human skull was found near the stream of Zaozi Duithal, located at Guigailong ward number 2, Tamenglong.

As per the FIR, the skull was identified as that of Gaithouliu Phaomei, by her aunt Julie Panmei.

It also mentioned that the accused individual, Ethube Daime is the husband of the deceased.

During the investigation, it was disclosed that the deceased was having extra marital affairs with an individual identified as Ngamphuiyang Gonmei whose whereabouts is unknown till date.

The Court order further said that the 10 of the case submitted that Ngamphuiyang Gonmei is suspected to have committed the crime but he is still untraceable.

After hearing the submission of the defense counsel of the accused husband and going through the case record, the Court pointed out that the accused has been in police custody since July 12, 2017 but no evidences whatsoever have been recorded so far to link him in the crime except the fact that he is the husband of the deceased woman.

As the IO also stated that the crime is suspected to have been committed by the other individual with whom the deceased had extra marital affairs, the Court found it unjustified to continue detention of the husband of the deceased in police custody and released him on a bail of Rs 50,000 along with a surety like amount with a condition that the he was to appear before the Court as per the bond executed by him.

Yesterday, the locals and family members of the deceased submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister arid the DGP, regarding the failure of the IO to investigate the case properly and demanding the appointment of a new IO, who is not less than the rank of DSP, for proper investigation.

They also demanded the authorities to frame charge sheet within six months.

It may be mentioned that the skull of the deceased woman was found at Greenland, near the residential area of her husband, in the month of July, 2017, after she went missing since the month of April.

The locals and family members alleged that the husband of the deceased is the real murderer as his father, Haisangam Daime, had admitted in the village customary court, that the crime was committed by Ethube Daime.
