Consequent upon breaching of banks and overflowing of water from Leimakhong river, Sajirok river, Sagolok river and Maklang river which passes through the constituency, around 300 households have been inundated in addition to submerging more than 1000 hectares of paddy fields.
Many of these families whose houses have been inundated are taking shelter in safer places.
Taking due note of their plight, MLA K Sarat distributed relief materials to the affected people at Kha-Jiri Maning Leikai.
The relief materials distributed by the MLA included rice, potato, cooking oil, common salt, dal and kerosene.
Some of the affected villagers rued that they have been facing similar situation of flooding every year because of failure on the part of elected representatives to repair worn out river banks for years.
Leave apart distribution of relief materials, none of the Ministers or officials came to visit them, even as several families have been rendered homeless and large tracts of paddy fields flooded, they lamented.
Nevertheless, they were thankful to the newly elected MLA for the relief materials he distributed.
