The Government of Manipur would be taking up special measure for the economic rehabilitation of women living with HIV, secretary of Legislative Forum on HIV/AIDS Dr I Ibohalbi has announced.
Dr Ibohalbi was speaking as president of the 10th foundation day function of CARE Foundation held at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen here today.
He observed that it would not be possible to fight against the disease just by ensuring medical treatment of people living with HIV/AIDS.
Economic rehabilitation of people living with HIV is essential.
So to ensure the economic rehabilitation of the people living with HIV specially womenfolk, the Legislative Forum would be consulting the various Departments of the Government so as to work out some definite programmes for providing free education and food supplements, Dr Ibohalbi said.
He also expressed satisfaction over the role of the community based organisations in preventing spread of HIV in Manipur.
Education and Sericulture Minister L Jayantakumar was chief guest of the function which was also attended by Joint Director of Manipur State AIDS Control Society Abhiram Mongjam as guest of honour.
In his address, Jayantakumar exhorted women living with HIV to take up Sericulture activities and urged them to submit proposals for necessary training in this regard.
Earlier delivering the key note address, president of CARE Foundation Th Subachandra recalled that the Foundation was set up on October 18, 2000 by 11 people and the Foundation has been working for the welfare of people affected/infected with HIV/AIDS.
Individuals who have done commendable works in the field of combating HIV/AIDS were also honoured at the occasion.
