Bandh affects Chandel district

Chandel, September 26 2017:
The 48 hours bandh called by Naga Chief Association and Kuki Chief Association in Chandel district, regarding the non payment of wages under MGNREGS 2015-2017, crippled many areas of the district today .
The bandh affected largely at Chandel Block, Machi Block, Tengnoupal Block, Moreh Block and Chakpikarong Block where schools, Government offices , Institutions and Bazars remained closed .
Speaking to media persons, Naga Chief Association, Chandel president Rungwar stated that the several democratic forms of agitation were taken up demanding release of the pending salaries and a memorandum was also submitted to the DC, Chief Minister and other authority concerned .

Following the unresponsive nature of the Government, the association was compelled to launch call the 48 hours bandh, he asserted and added that the agitation will become stringent if their demands remain neglected .
It can be recalled that job card holders from five Blocks of the district worked for 17 days under MNREGS scheme in 2016 and their wages were distributed in a scattered manner .
Some received their wages before Christmas of 2016 and the remaining wages have not been distributed till date .
He also noted that salaries for 12 days have been distributed for Chandel Block, six days salaries were distributed each to Machi, Tengnoupal and Moreh Block and salaries for 24 days were distributed for Chakpikarong Block .
People came out in the streets to take part in the bandh and blocked the roads with burning tyres.
