IGNTU-RCM hosts National seminar

A two-day National seminar on "Democracy; Social Political exclusion in Tribal areas of North East India" was organised today by the Department of Political Science, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Regional Campus Manipur under the sponsorship of North Eastern Council (NEC) Shillong .
Prof Adya Prasad Pandey, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University attended the inaugural session as the chief guest while Dr Ringkahao Horam, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Modern College was the guest of honour.
Dr Ngalengnam, HOD, Department of Political Science and Human Rights, IGNTU-RC, Manipur was the keynote speaker and Prof Ramjeevam Singh Thakur, Director, IGNTU RCM, presided the session, according to a statement issued by the PRO of Manipur University .
In his chief guest speech, Prof Adya Prasad Pandey appreciated the location and establishment of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Regional Campus Manipur.
The environment and surrounding of the campus is quite appropriate for research and academic activities.
It looks like the ancient Ashram where students used to learn lot of things by taking the advantage of the situation and location .
He stated that rural people are not aware of the electoral process of the country.
It is the duty and responsibility of the teachers, scholars and students to take initiative for creating awareness so as to ensure maximum participation by rural people in the democratic electoral process of the country .
“We should also teach and motivate the rural people to elect the right representative at the right time at the right situation,” Prof AP Pandey said while urging the students’ community to create a platform so that poor, downtrodden and underprivileged people could participate in the Central and State welfare schemes.
He appreciated the organisers for holding such seminar in a State like Manipur.
He expressed hope that the seminar will be a grand success and bring out some concrete theory and practice which will be extensively used for the welfare of the State, region and Nation as a whole .
Prof Horam expressed that democracy has many facets and there are lots of thrust areas which are untouched in research.
The scholars in this field should identify and do extensive research for the benefit of the society and nation .
Prof Ramjeevan in his presidential speech emphasised on the characteristics and principle of democracy .
The Programme began with welcome speech by Dr Surjitkumar and Dr Sohiamlung proposed the vote of thanks.
