Imphal, March 22 2016:
Taking strong exception to the inaction of Heingang police station over a complaint filed against brutal physical assault of a disabled woman by a couple, the Disabled Development Association Manipur (DDAM) has lodged a complaint to the DGP and the Disability Commissioner.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, DDAM general secretary Md Yunus Khan said that one Aruna (30) w/o Md Abung of Kairang Khomidok, Imphal East was physically assaulted by Md Riyaj Khan (28) and his wife Yaimabi (27) of the same locality on January 16 this year.
Riyaj alleged hacked Aruna on the head with a spade before she was kicked on the chest by Yaimabi.
As she sustained grievous injuries, Aruna was treated at different hospitals at Imphal and she even went to Guwahati for treatment.
The assault had its origin in a tiff between kids.
Although Aruna filed a complaint about the assault at Heingang PS on the same day, police have been literally sleeping over the matter till date, Yunus alleged.
He said that DDAM lodged a complaint to the DGP and the Disability Commissioner as they could not bear the atrocity committed on a disabled and underprivileged woman.
DDAM's complaint sought befitting action against the police officer(s) concerned of Heingang PS and punishment of the couple who brutally assaulted Aruna, he added.
