CM hands over Rs 1 Cr compensation

Chief Minister N Biren today handed over an amount of Rs 1,08,41,094 to the All Manipur Petroleum Product Transporters Association and the All Manipur Bulk LPG Transporters Association to compensate for damages inflicted on oil tankers and LPG carriers and casualties suffered by drivers and helpers on Imphal-Dimapur highway and Imphal-Jiribam highway between November last year and January this year .
The Chief Minister handed over Rs 1,07,01,094 to the All Manipur Petroleum Product Transporters Association while Rs 1,40,000 was handed over to the All Manipur Bulk LPG Transporters Association during a press conference held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat this afternoon .
N Biren stated that he was giving away what was due to fuel and LPG transporters, drivers and helpers who have suffered a lot for a long time .
Braving all odds including bandhs, blockades, heavy rainfall, landslides and gun/bomb attacks, drivers and their helpers have been transporting fuel throughout the year.
The State Cabinet took a decision and the Government fulfilled their long pending demand, Biren stated .
N Biren also announced that Rs 58 lakh had been sanctioned to purchase a recovery van to help the drivers and transporters at the time of any accident or emergency on the National Highways .
Between November last year and January this year, three drivers/helpers were killed while some oil tankers were set ablaze .
Responding to a query on Government's plan for setting up of a Highway Protection Force, the Chief Minister said that necessary procedures to set up some fresh IRB Battalions would commence after the results of Manipur Police (2013 and 2016 batches) recruitment examinations are declared .
A Central team stayed at Imphal for four days and assessed the damages of the recent flood.
Now the State Government has been focusing its attention on possible outbreak of diseases in the wake of the extensive flood, Biren said .
Taking serious note of the detection of Dengue and Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in different parts of the State, the Government has been taking up a number of control measures like pumping out of stale water, distribution of bleaching powder etc .
Paddy seeds and transplants have been prepared so that paddy cultivation can be started once the flood water recedes .
Medical teams have been sent to flooded areas and it is being checked whether there is outbreak of any disease post flood in any part of the State .
Acknowledging donations made by different quarters to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, N Biren stated that some private hospitals have been working to open medical facilities in areas which are inaccessible to Government hospitals.
