Assam Rifle personnel have recovered smuggled gold worth Rs 2.88 crore from a vehicle at Khudengthabi yesterday .
A statement issued by the PRO of IGAR (S) said that based on specific input received by 12 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South), a Maruti van moving from Moreh towards Lilong was stopped at PVCP, Khudengthabi at 3.15 pm yesterday for checking .
After through search of the vehicle, 18 gold biscuits and four gold bars weighing about 9 kg and 615 gms, worth Rs 2.88 crore were recovered from the rear bumper .
The recovered gold items along with the driver of the vehicle identified as one Sajid Khan (39) of Muslim Nagar Mathak Leikai, Moreh were handed over to Custom office Moreh, it added.
