Imphal, May 15 2021:
The Communist Party of India Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) has charged that the delay in vaccination against COVID-19 has been contributing to the rapid spread of the virus.
The party in a statement said that the State Government should work a proper plan to vaccinate people in the 18-44 age group within a few days to curb the spread of the virus to a certain extent.
The State Government has better understanding on the need of vaccination but lapses and inconveniences are aplenty at the time of execution, it said.
As thousands throng for vaccination at a centre which can accomodate on 100 doses, there has been rapid spread of the virus, it charged.
What is more surprising is that the meagre rate of vaccination in the State, it said while adding that only 1 percent of the State's population has received first dose so far and only 0.2 percent has received second dose as per reports available.
Expressing concern over the slow paced vaccination programme and the possibility of unprecedented surge of COVID-19 positive cases in the coming days, the party also questioned how long the State Government will be taking to vaccinate the entire State population against the virus.
Above Covid patients, serious non-Covid patients are rushing to RIMS and JNIMS which are the biggest hospitals in the State but lack of doctors, nurses, other staff and adequate oxygen supply have been causing forms of inconveniences, it said while asking who will be solving such big issues.
The parties also went on to question how the Government will be dealing with the shortage of doctors and support staff at Covid Care Centres which have been opened across Assembly segments by respective MLA.
It is high time the Government chalk out a deep plan to successfully execute all measures to beat the pandemic, it continued.
