Accused in hit and run case sent to judicial custody

The Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West has yesterday remanded the accused driver involved in the hit and run case of 83 years old person at Keishampat bridge to judicial custody till July 13 .
The accused Yambem Yushito (33 yrs) of Konjeng Hajari Leikai arrested by team of City police station on June 25 evening on surrender after the incident occured in the morning, was produced before the Court yesterday on completion of policy custody period.
The IO of the case submitted that accused Yambem Yushito reportedly fled on his Baleno Car after knocking down one Laishram Ibopishak Singh (83) who also was paddling towards Keishampat Junction from Thoubal Bus parking side on his bicycle at around 8.55 am of June 25 .
The aged person from Hodam Leirak received injuries and was rushed to RIMS for treatment but succumbed at RIMS Casualty.
Hence, a suo moto case was registered for investigation and hectic efforts were made by the police team to arrest the driver later identified as Yambem Yushito, said the IO.
During the course of investigation the driver surrendered before City PS and the involved vehicle was seized by observing formalities, the IO submitted.
The IO further submitted that the accused had revealed that he went to collect money from Hatta Golapati on the day of the incident.
After collecting money the accused had proceeded towards Konung Mamang and found that one side of the road was barricaded and a police team was conducting checking.
On seeing that he took a right turn and drove towards Sanjenthong in the wrong direction after which police on duty chased him, the IO submitted.
It was further revealed that on being chased by the police team he tried to evade and he drove up to Keishampat Bridge and knocked down the victim, the IO submitted.
The IO further submitted that it was highly suspected that the accused was in possession of some illegal item at the time of incident and was not cooperating with police personnel.
As such he is highly required to be in judicial custody for crime he had committed, the IO submitted and prayed the Court for judicial custody remand of the accused.
The Court on perusal of the case record and other materials produced remanded the accused into judicial custody till July 13 .
