Imphal, June 30 2021:
Six student bodies, AIMS, AMSU, DESAM, KSA, MSF and SUK while lauding the Chief Minister and Education Minister for appointing regular Vice-Chancellors for Manipur University of Culture and Dhanamanjuri University have however bemoaned the absence of a regular VC at Manipur Technical University after the former VC Prof Laiphrakpam Tombi Singh retired on October 25, 2020 .
Contrary to the expecations of the student community the establishment of the very first technical university back in 2016, there has not been any significant development so far, the six student bodies said in a joint statement.
The university which is five years old, has neither a regular VC at present nor has its own compound till date, it said.
Moreover, the appointment of a person who is above 70 years against the norms as the VC of the institute as stop-gap arrangement is not acceptable, the student bodies said and appealed for the earliest appointment of a regular VC.
The six student bodies also expressed hope that the State Government will consider their appeal and do the needful.
