Staging of a street play at Japhou Bazar in Chandel district hqs today in connection with the fortnight-long observance against crime on women had not been allowed by a person who identified himself as the town commander of an underground outfit on the alleged ground that permission was not sought for the same.
A large number of people had gathered to watch the play which deals with the problems and suffering of womenfolk who are victims of crimes and the related legal assistance for such victims.
But just before the commencement of the play, the said town commander intervened and imposed ban on performing the play.
Such street plays are being performed by the artistes of Song and Drama Division at different parts of the State both at the hills and valley district as part of the ongoing fortnight long observance against crime on women in Society jointly being organised by Women Action for Development and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Secretary of Women Action for Development Subita has expressed over ban thereby denying the people specially the womenfolk to know their rights and duties.
