Govt on mobile sale to beat shortage triggered by eco-blockades

With the Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution Department setting aside Rs 93 lakhs to procure essential commodities from outside the State and make it available to the public at rates approved by the Government, a mobile sale of some items will be held tomorrow at select places.
The decision to procure the goods was taken on September 23 and officials of the said department were deputed to procure the goods.
An official notification to this effect was issued today evening by the Director of CAF and PD.
N Biren, CAF and PD Minister, will flag off the mobile truckloads of goods at 8.30 am said the notification and added that the goods will be sold to the public at Singjamei, Kwakeithel, Lamlong bazar, Palace gate, Khoyathong, Hathi Chowk, Kongba bazar, Khongnang Ani Karak, Chingmeirong, Tera bazar and Lamphel, Sanakeithel.

As per the price list given in the notification, per kilogramme, potato will be sold at Rs 15, Mutter (Manggal) Rs 35, Masoor Rs 51 and Arhar Rs 56 .
A rider in the mobile sale is the specification that a consumer has to buy 5 kg of the item/s at the minimum and 10 kg at the maximum.
The initiative of the Government comes after prices of essential commodities hit the roof with a kilogramme of potato costing Rs 45 to Rs 50, forcing AMSU to take to the street and crack down on hoarding and price hike.
