Imphal, September 28 2011:
Southern Senapati Naga Villages Council, Manipur submitted a memorandum to Governor Gurbachan Jagat to uphold the MoUs signed between the State Govt and Naga social organisations on many occasions regarding creation of Sadar Hills district.
A representation signed by its Publicity Secretary M Charingam was submitted in this regard today.
It urged not to include the 117 Naga villages located under the jurisdiction of Sadar Hills in the creation of a Sadar Hills district or merge them with other districts in the re-organisation process.
The representation claimed that Nagas have been residing in their ancestral domain and they are traditionally the land owners of the hills of Manipur and maintaining brotherhood with Makimai, known as Meitei since time immemorial.
It has been a proven fact by History and genealogy that Nagas are the elder brothers and Makimais/Meiteis residing in the valley areas of Manipur are the younger brothers.
Taking reference from Sir James Johnstone and TC Hudson, the representation said, "Kookies (Kukis) are a wandering race (nomadic tribe) and like the birds of the air" .
They were camped at Moirang with the mercy of Manipur King Nar Singh, and then spread out in the hills, it added.
It also questioned why the State Govt has constituted a committee for re-organisation of administrative and police boundaries although the Govt has the knowledge of these historical facts.
The re-organisation process is nothing but inciting to witness another unwanted incident.
