Highest fatalities in one day recorded with 23

Imphal, May 19 2021:
Even as the number of fresh infections dipped slightly with 582 testing positive in the last 24 hours, the second wave of COVID-19 has claimed a record 23 deaths, the highest so far.
On May 18, Manipur saw the then record equalling number of deaths with 20, a figure earlier reached on May 11 .
A total of 624 people had tested positive on May 18 in contrast to the 582 cases on May 19 .
From April 27 to May 19, there have been 250 deaths due to COVID-19 .
The death toll has now touched 635 .
The number of active cases at present is 6,817 .
It may be noted here that the severity of the infection and mortality rate amid the second wave of the pandemic is much higher than the previous wave as per records available.
While Manipur reported its first Covid death on July 30, 2020, it took four months for the death toll to cross 250.The death toll reported during the first wave on November 28, 2020 was 257 .
However in just 23 days, amid the second wave from April 27 till today, Manipur recorded 250 deaths.
Meanwhile, the 23 deaths in the last 24 hours include 17 men and 6 women, said a report of the Government COVID-19 Common Control Room.
Of the 23 people who passed away, six were below the age of 40 .
Imphal East and Bishnupur districts recorded the highest number of deaths with each reporting 6 deaths.
Imphal West reported 5 deaths; Kakching and Thoubal reported 2 deaths each.
Churachandpur and Ukhrul reported one death each.
The casualties from Imphal East include an 80-year-old woman and the rest were men aged 30, 56, 65, 75 and 84 .
The casualties from Imphal West include a 51-year-old woman and the rest were men aged 28, 31, 53 and 85.The casualties from Bishnupur include three women aged 38, 55 and 65 and three men aged 72, 81 and 81 .
The casualties from Kakching were a 60-year-old woman and an 82-year-old man.
The casualties from Thoubal were two men aged 35 and 50 .
The casualties from Ukhrul and Churachandpur were men aged 38 and 62 years respectively.
The 23 persons died at JNIMS (6), RIMS (5), Shija Hospital (4), Covid Care Centre Bishnupur (4), Jivan Hospital (2), District Hospital Churachandpur (1) and Babina (1) .
On the other hand, the 582 fresh COVID-19 cases detected in the last 24 hours include 570 people from general population and 12 personnel of the Central Armed Police Force.
They tested positive at Babina Diagnostics (118), Shija Hospital (91), RIMS (83), JNIMS (60), Imphal West (59), Raj Medicity (26), Bishnupur (19), Churachandpur (15), Chandel (11), GILEAD HC (11), Thoubal (11), Ukhrul (10), Maipakpi (9), Kakching (9), Jivan Hospital (7), Kangpokpi (5), Senapati (6), RD Wing (5), Imphal East (4), Ema Hospital (4), Imphal Hospital (4), Samaritan (3), Tengnoupal (3), Advance Hospital (2), Tamenglong (2), SIELMAT (1), Hillside (1), RMCC (1), Little Clinic (1) and Peace Hospital (1) .
Majority of the 570 positive cases from among the general population were reported from Imphal West followed by Imphal East district.
Imphal West reported the highest with as many as 278 people testing positive while Imphal East reported 137 fresh cases.
Churachandpur reported the third highest with 51 cases.
The remaining cases were detected from Bishnupur (26), Kakching (20), Thoubal (19), Ukhrul (11), Chandel (11), Senapati (6), Kangpokpi (5), Tengnoupal (3), Tamenglong (2) and Pherzawl (1) .
As many as 347 persons also recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.
While 240 of them recovered while under home isolation, the remaining have been discharged from Covid Care Centres opened at CAPF (26), NSU (16), BB (12), Ukhrul (12), RIMS (10), SHRI (8), Thoubal (8), CCC Lamboikhongnangkhong (5), Jivan Hospital (3), Bishnupur (2), Babina Speciality Hospital (2), JNIMS (1), Kangpokpi (1) and Senapati (1) .
The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 41,265 (general population-37,548 and Central security personnel-3,717) .
The cumulative number of recovered cases is 33,813 (general population - 30,250 and Central security personnel-3,563) .
The number of active cases is 6,817 (general population 6,668 and Central security personnel-149) .
So far, 3,23,391 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 .
Meanwhile, COVID-19 Common Control Room has informed air passengers who arrived at Imphal on May 11 by Indigo flight 6E-2251 in rows 31-37 and Air India AI-889 (May 8) in rows 18-24 to inform the control room at 1800-345-3818 or respective District Surveillance Officers for further surveillance and necessary Covid testing.
One air passenger tested positive on arrival at BT Airport in the last 24 hours.
In the last 24 hours, a total of 1355 D-type oxygen cylinders and 523 B-type cylinders have been made available to different healthcare institutions and facilities, said the Covid Control Room.
