Imphal, July 02 2011:
A younger brother of Health Minister L Jayantakumar reportedly assaulted a driver of an inter-state bus, inflicting severe injuries on the eye.
Bus driver Ningthoujam Dhanakuber (40) of Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi employed with Seven Sister Travels was assaulted by Jayantakumar's younger brother Dhane at Senapati yesterday afternoon.
According to Dhanakuber, he was driving on Imphal-Dimapur highway towards Guwahati when a Bolero jeep travelling behind his bus started blowing its horn repeatedly near Thangal village as if asking for way to overtake the bus.
"As the highway was too narrow at the point to give any space for overtaking my bus, the jeep was given space to overtake me a little distance ahead" .
"However, as the jeep overtook my bus, it collided with another bus coming from the opposite direction.
As none of the vehicles were damaged very badly, and as I was not involved, I simply drove ahead", Dhanakuber said.
However, the people travelling in the Bolero jeep pursued the bus in another Bolero jeep and halted Dhanakuber near Senapati district hospital.

As soon as Dhanakuber halted his vehicle, he was dragged behind the jeep and assaulted severely using tyre lever.
"Had my licensed gun been with me, I would kill you", Dhane reportedly said to the bus driver.
"Dhane further threatened me not to inform media about the incident", Dhanakuber said.
While Dhanakuber have reached Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) hospital after receiving first aid at Senapati district hospital, the bus was drove by its assistant towards Guwahati.
However, Dhane maintained that he and all his companions lost consciousness because of the accident.
"When we reached Senapati district hospital in another Bolero, we found the bus driver injured after being assaulted by some people", Dhane said.
