The 110th Patriots' Day was observed widely in the state and outside yesterday.
The state level observation was held at Bir Tikendrajit, Park with Governor Ved Marwah as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Ved Marwah noted that the tales of valour of the last war of independence of Manipur against the British would continue to fire the imagination of the countrymen for many years to come.
"On the occasion of the day, we must remember with gratitude the heroic sacrifices of Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal General, Paona Brajabashi and other martyrs who willingly sacrificed their lives for the cause of freedom", he said.
Dwelling on the crises facing tile state, Governor Ved Marwah emphasized on seeking the solution rather than going to the causes.
�Now the question is under such circumstances how the development process can be accelerated�, he said.
"Strict financial discipline has to be maintained to give a clean and transparent administration".
He also reiterated his appeal to all to shun violence and join hands with the government with its efforts to make Manipur more prosperous.
The development process can be accelerated only when there is peace and harmony in the society, he said.
Stressing importance on communal harmony in the state, Ved Marwah also remarked Manipur is a mini India where people belonging to various communities have been living peacefully, and expressed hope that everybody in the state will continue to contribute his maximum mite to strengthen this age old tradition of peacefully co-existence.
Various political parties and organizations also observed the Patriots Day yesterday.
The BJP Manipur Pradesh observed the Patriots' Day at the Mass Hotel with M Bhorot in the chair.
The members commemorated the supreme sacrifices of the heroes and expressed that emotional integrity among the different groups' of people is the need of the hour.
Members of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee also observed the day, and paid floral tribute to the portraits of the martyrs.
The All Manipur Women's Association and the Meitei Council, Moreh, also observed the day at their respective office at Nongmeibung and Moreh, yesterday.
