Imphal, October 05:
Hard-selling the MPP as the only political party which can save the State and the people from the present state of indiscriminate killings and violence, its president Dr Chandramani said that the MPP should be given the mandate to take over the reins of Manipur.
Speaking at the one day political convention organized by the MPP Kumbi kendra at Saiton bazar today, Dr Chandramani said that during the last seven or so years of Congress rule, the people have had to live under a state of perpetual fear and apprehension.
The condition is such that people are today afraid to step out of their house with substantial sum of money in their pocket, said Dr Chandramani and added that this is a reflection of how the Congress has failed to instill a sense of security amongst the people of the land.
Referring to the basic ideology of the MPP, Dr Chandramani said that it was set up to work for the upliftment of all communities as well as to protect the unity of the people.
If the people repose their faith in the MPP and give it the opportunity to be at the helm of affairs, then a change will surely dawn on Manipur, he asserted.
Questioning the gathering whether they are satisfied with the functioning of the Congress led SPF Government, Dr Chandramani said that if the people are disillusioned with the present government then the time for a change has come.
The false propaganda that the State would be in financial trouble if a party other than the one ruling Delhi comes to power here is a ploy to garner support from the people, claimed the MPP president.
It is time the people realize the false propaganda that they have been subjected to and to stop blindly supporting the Congress.
Though the MPP believes in striking up alliance with any National party, this does not mean that the MPP will depend on them to get Manipur's rightful share.
A look at the political scenario in the country where regional political parties are gaining strength with each passing year is a clear indication that the National parties are losing their mass appeal, said Dr Chandramani.
Taking further pot shots at the Congress, the MPP leader said that the manner in which the decision of the State unit Congress to nominate Dr Maniruddin Sheikh to the Rajya Sabha was brushed aside by the AICC who named Rishang Keishing must have caused a lot of internal heart burn, though there was no open voice of dissent, observed Chandramani.
This is a clear indication that the position of the Congress is slipping, he added.
Former Union Minister Th Chaoba 'who also addressed the gathering said that if young men are killed so indiscriminately during the present regime led by the Congress, then, the conditions of the womenfolk can only be imagined.
Since the CPI is supporting the Congress, it should also be held guilty for the large scale killings as well as for the continued imposition of AFSPA, said Chaoba.
Ever since an MLA from the CPI has been in charge of the Health and Family Welfare portfolio, the health sector in Manipur has taken a dip for the worse, he claimed and added that there are no doctors and medicines in health centers located the rural areas.
