Wild Pigeons in Early Autumn
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
It is early autumn
And the wild pigeons are suddenly seen
Heralding the first arrivals of the dead
In this part of the world.
The air is filled with the sound
Of wild pigeons cooing
Here in this lovely place
Where the living and the dead
Live happily side by side.
Once in a year
Early in autumn
The dead have come back
To the land of the living
To partake of the humble offerings.
'Would you care to partake of
A handful of juicy fruits
And drink a mouthful of water?'
In my dream last night
I was with my father
Who died some years ago
And we were together
As if we had never been separated
By a non-existent reality called death.
Early autumn!
The season of strange dreams!
It awakens memories
And with the resurrection of the dead
The living are in their elements
And excitement is shining
In the eyes of the living.
