Where shall I go
K. Padmakumar *
Where shall I go
Leaving such a lovely place behind.
Like a calf taking its fill of the cow's milk
Pressing itself to her bosom of a cradle,
Playing hide and seek in the hive of life
Filled to overflowing with honey
And getting lost in a moment of intoxication –
The sun has no eyes
But it lies engraved in my heart.
The sound of wild birds from the unpolluted valley
I have been used to since my childhood days
And which gives me peace of mind –
Where shall I go leaving such a place behind.
I will live a thousand and one lives
After a thousand and one deaths.
God or no God
In the fresh air of the morning
At the lovely hour of the twilight
When the sound of gongs and rhythmic drum beat
From near and far is heard –
Where shall I be born leaving this place behind.
The friends I had made in life
And who I bade farewell to, and the friends
Who shared the joys and sorrows of daily life
Ah, memory brings tears –
Where shall I be born leaving you all behind.
