When the Sun Falls from the Sky
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
High in the sky
Hundreds of thousands of suns are in bloom.
They fall, and fall they will one by one
When the earth is clad in sunset yellow.
Some die young –
It happens without rhyme or reason.
All I know is the sun always sets –
Yes, I know it for sure.
I know
And do not know it at the same time;
I do not know, actually.
The screen displays a mother and her daughter
Engaged in an animated discussion about
The rise in basic commodity prices and
The robots replacing human labour.
A friend of the mother calls round
And sees the mother on her way home.
'She looks like you,' says the friend
Looking at the daughter.
The mother smiles and says,
'She is my daughter.'
What is a poem?
The poet in me has been seriously asking
What a poem is
Oh, for the past many years.
I'd love to write a poem
A poem of life
Which is undefined at the moment.
Clearly, it is
Not a poem which will do good to the people
Not a poem which will be seriously beautiful
But a great poem which will be unputdownable.
And today I'd say
It is but a word of truth.
Mew mew…
Pussycat pussycat
I like little pussy
Her coat is so warm
And if I don't pull her tail
She will do me no harm.
Disconnected acts.
Disconnected moments.
Quite flows towards the mouth of the river
A seemingly timeless,
Purposeless journey.
Screams of misery
Echoes of laughter
Hang in the air;
Never do I forget to breath.
I am not even conscious of it.
Mew mew
How are you, pussycat?
