When the End is Drawing Near
K. Padmakumar *
The road is full of people
Hardly known to me.
Once in a while
I run into an acquaintance.
Away he goes looking round again and again
And I remain standing looking at him go away.
When one grows old
And when the loved ones are gone –
My role in the society,
It feels like going alone
In a naked desert .
Friend! Death is something of an idle thought
And is no use to anyone;
To be content with something
Dear to one's heart
And a childhood dream –
That's all.
When the end is drawing near
What am I to make of my spiritual quest
Save to be content with what I have.
